The National Assessment for 8th grade students is the means of external summative assessment of the competencies acquired during lower secondary education.

The exam is held annually in a single session. Both candidates from public education and those from private education have the right to take the National Assessment free of charge.

The average grade obtained at the National Assessment for 8th grade is a decisive criterion for admission to high school education.

At the national level, the coordination of planning, organization, and administration of the National Assessment for 8th grade, as well as the utilization of its results, is ensured by the Ministry of Education through the National Center for Assessment and Examination (CNEE).

The development of specific assessment procedures is carried out by the CNEE, following consultation with the ministry’s specialist departments.

At the county/Bucharest municipality level, the coordination of the organization of the National Assessment for 8th grade, as well as the utilization of its results, is ensured by the school inspectorate.
