The National Evaluation for eighth grade students represents the method of external summative evaluation of the competencies acquired during lower secondary education.

The exam is held annually in a single session. Both candidates from public education and those from private education have the right to take the National Evaluation without a fee.

The average obtained at the National Evaluation for eighth grade is a decisive criterion for admission to high school education.

National-level coordination of the design, organization, and conduct of the National Evaluation for eighth grade, as well as the utilization of their results, are ensured by the Ministry of Education through the National Center for Evaluation and Examination (CNEE).

The development of the specific evaluation procedures is carried out by CNEE, following consultation with the specialized departments of the ministry.

County-level/Bucharest municipality coordination of the organization of the National Evaluation for eighth grade, as well as the utilization of their results, are ensured by the school inspectorate.
