In the field of sports, the merit allowance is granted to persons who have achieved outstanding results or have directly contributed to obtaining them and who belong to the following categories:
a) athletes;
b) coaches;
c) medical staff and researchers;
d) referees;
e) other personalities who have participated in special external actions to promote the image of Romania.
The merit allowance is granted to persons nominated by the National Commission for Awarding the Merit Allowance, based on the criteria for granting the merit allowance provided in these implementing rules of the law. The merit allowance can be granted to persons who have reached the age of 60.
