The Romanian-American University automatically recognizes the status of doctoral supervisor and habilitation obtained at accredited higher education institutions abroad, according to the recognition procedure described below.
Eligibility
Applicants who have obtained this status at:
- accredited higher education or research-development institutions in a member state of the European Union, the European Economic Area, and the Swiss Confederation;
- accredited higher education or research-development institutions included in the List of prestigious universities from other states, approved by order of the minister of national education and research, periodically updated;
- accredited higher education or research-development institutions subject to an international mutual recognition agreement, concluded at intergovernmental or interuniversity level.
The recognition of the status of doctoral supervisor or habilitation is granted only for the purpose of exercising the rights conferred by the status of doctoral supervisor or for occupying a teaching/research position within the Romanian-American University.

The status of PhD supervisor is found at position no. A8 in Annex no. 2 of Law no. 200/2004 regarding the recognition of diplomas and professional qualifications for regulated professions in Romania, with subsequent amendments and completions.*

Appeal routes
The decision may be appealed within 30 days from in communication, through a motivated request submitted to the University Registry. Appeals are resolved within 5 days by the appeal resolution committee made up of 5 members appointed by Rector's decision. The answer to the appeal is communicated directly, by email or by post/courier company, to the applicant or the person authorized by them, on the basis of signature and certain date, by the Documents Office. The procedure is drawn up and approved on the basis of O.M. no. 5921/2016 published in the Official Gazette no. 1007 dated 15.12.2016.
