The professional foster caregiver is the individual, certified according to the law, who, through their activity at their home, ensures the upbringing, care, and education necessary for the harmonious development of the children they receive in foster care.
Who can be a professional foster caregiver?
A professional foster caregiver can be a person who:
-has at least 10 grades
-is between 25 and 52 years old at the time of evaluation
-has full capacity to exercise rights, by their behavior in society, health condition and psychological profile, provides guarantees for properly fulfilling the obligations of a parent, relating to their own children;
-has a residence that covers the needs for food preparation, hygiene, education and rest for its users, including those of children who are to be received in foster care;
-has the consent of the entire family with whom they live, to receive and care for a child in their home;
-is a person who performs salaried activity, only on the condition of terminating the individual employment contract based on which the said salaried activity is performed
Cannot be a professional foster caregiver
-a person who has suffered a conviction by a final court decision, for committing an intentional crime;
-a parent deprived of parental rights or whose child has been declared abandoned by a final court decision
-a person who suffers from chronic transmissible diseases
How can you become a professional foster caregiver?
Persons residing in Arad County interested in becoming professional foster caregivers should contact the Case Management Service for Children – Foster Care Assistance within DGASPC Arad, str. Iustin Marsieu nr. 22 A, ground floor room 7, tel. 0257/250325, where they will submit an evaluation request accompanied by the documents mentioned below.
Upon submission of the evaluation request, an evaluation of the applicant's capacity to care for children will be conducted. This evaluation can last up to 90 days and, during this period, the applicant and their family members will be involved in various activities.
The procedure for evaluating the applicant and their family comprises 2 stages:
-the initial evaluation stage
-the training stage
The certificate is issued by the Arad Child Protection Commission and is valid for 3 years.
