Working in the EU
Seeking employment in another Member State
Any person who is a citizen of a Member State has the right to seek employment in another Member State and is provided by county employment agencies with the same services as citizens of the host Member State.
As ruled by the Court of Justice of the European Union, the jobseeker may stay within the territory of the host Member State for a sufficient time to enable them to assess the offers of employment available and to take the necessary steps in order to be employed. At the end of this period, they cannot be expelled if they provide evidence that they are still seeking employment and that they have genuine chances of being employed.
The EURES network is made up of 1 000 advisers and the EURES Portal includes vacancy notices and practical advice. In this portal you can obtain information on finding a job and on getting established in another Member State.
There are a number of websites in Romania, which enable to seek jobs, such as Job vacancies in Public Administration in Romania, a single portal of information on job vacancies within public authorities and institutions in Romania.
In order to apply online for the job opportunities published on various websites, it is recommended to use the CV completed in the Europass format.
Finding a job in another Member State
Romanian citizens may find a job abroad both on their own, by contacting the employer directly, and through the National Employment Agency [Agenția Națională pentru Ocuparea Forței de Muncă], as well as through private employment agencies.
Romanian citizens may, through the National Employment Agency, access the EURES Network, which is the cooperation network between European Public Employment Services, designed to facilitate the free movement of workers within the European Economic Area and Switzerland. The EURES Network is coordinated by the European Commission.
There is a EURES adviser working in every county employment agency, who can provide additional information on offers of employment available, the employer’s requirements, etc.
Offers of employment available, the contact details of EURES advisers and other information can be viewed on the EURES Romania website.
